Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
A violent clash unfolded at Gurudwara Akal Bunga in Kapurthala, Sultanpur Lodhi, Punjab, between Nihang Sikhs and police officials, resulting in the death of a police constable and injuries to three other policemen. The incident occurred when the police arrived at the gurdwara to resolve an ongoing dispute between two Nihang groups over the rightful ownership of the religious site. The conflict, escalating on Thursday morning, led to indiscriminate firing by Nihang group members, causing casualties among the police team.
The dispute between the Nihang groups began three days ago, with tensions reaching a peak as the police attempted to clear the gurdwara premises. Mann Singh's Nihang group, resisting eviction, opened fire on the police team, resulting in the death of Constable Jaspal Singh and injuries to three other officers. The clash occurred ahead of the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 27. The police arrested 10 Nihangs from Mann Singh's group and filed charges, including attempted murder, against them on November 21, emphasizing the volatile nature of the situation.
